The role of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is becoming increasingly prominent due to the growing reliance on AI, the need for resilience, and the expanding scope of cybersecurity operations.

• CISO's Ascendent:

  • CISOs are taking on additional responsibilities, including cyber strategy and policy development, risk management, and innovation, with 72% reporting an expansion of their role in the past year
    

  • This survey shows 51% of CISOs report to their CEO, and 28% to the board, which has elevated their role and responsibilities.
    

• Barriers to achieving security goals include a lack of sufficient budget, competing priorities, employee awareness and training, and the constant threat of cyberattacks.
  

• Top security priorities for 2025 include strengthening the protection of confidential and sensitive data, upgrading IT and data security to boost corporate resiliency, and enhancing security awareness through end-user training.
  

• Of course, AI has impacted all of this as well. 98% of respondents in the 2024 study reported benefits from AI-enabled security technologies, up from 72% in 2023. CISO now need to master this evolving discipline within their remit.
